چکیده

We report strong instantaneous photoinduced absorption in the quasi-one-dimensional Mott insulator Sr 2 CuO 3 in the IR spectral region. The observed photoinduced absorption is to an even-parity two-photon state that occurs immediately above the absorption edge. Theoretical calculation based on a two-band extended Hubbard model explains the experimental features and indicates that the strong two-photon absorption is due to a very large dipole-coupling between nearly degenerate one-and two-photon states. Room temperature picosecond recovery of the optical transparency suggests the strong potential of Sr 2 CuO 3 for all-optical switching.

Coherence Properties of a Bose-Einstein Condensate in an Optical Superlattice

We study the effect of a one dimensional optical superlattice on the superfluid fraction, number squeezing, dynamic structure factor and the quasi-momentum distribution of the Mott-insulator. We show that due to the secondary lattice, there is a decrease in the superfluid fraction and the number fluctuation. The dynamic structure factor which can be measured by Bragg spectroscopy is also suppres...

Optical Properties of a Vibrationally Modulated Solid State Mott Insulator

Optical pulses at THz and mid-infrared frequencies tuned to specific vibrational resonances modulate the lattice along chosen normal mode coordinates. In this way, solids can be switched between competing electronic phases and new states are created. Here, we use vibrational modulation to make electronic interactions (Hubbard-U) in Mott-insulator time dependent. Mid-infrared optical pulses exci...

Nature of the Peierls - to Mott - insulator transition in 1 D

In order to clarify the physics of the crossover from a Peierls band insulator to a correlated Mott-Hubbard insulator, we analyze ground-state and spectral properties of the one-dimensional halffilled Holstein-Hubbard model using quasi-exact numerical techniques. In the adiabatic limit the transition is connected to the band to Mott insulator transition of the ionic Hubbard model. Depending on ...

Se p 19 99 Calculation of Neel temperature for S = 1 / 2 Heisenberg quasi - one - dimensional antiferromagnets

Isotropic S = 1/2 quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnets are considered within the bosonization method. The 1/z ⊥-corrections to the interchain mean-field theory (where z ⊥ is the number of nearest neighbors in transverse to chain directions) are obtained for the ground-state sublattice magnetization S 0 and Neel temperature T N. The corrections to T N make up about 25% of mean-field value, whi...

Response of Bose gases in time-dependent optical superlattices

The dynamic response of ultracold Bose gases in one-dimensional optical lattices and superlattices is investigated based on an exact numerical time evolution in the framework of the Bose-Hubbard model. The system is excited by a temporal amplitude modulation of the lattice potential, as it was already realized in experiment. For regular lattice potentials, the dynamic signatures of the superflu...
